In this national Entrance screening test, there were 4 sections. And each section is of 50 Marks and will contain subject-specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. The NST Merit List for both the institutes is prepared using the best 3 scores out of the four sections and the section with the worst score is omitted.
Apart from this, the department has also decided on minimum NEST Cut off Marks (Called minimum Admissible Percentile- MAP) as per available seats in Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS. Both institutes have their own Cut off and need to qualify NEST Cut off or percentile which is a National Level Exam. Now, as far as NEST MAP Percentile is concerned you are required to qualify according to your category marks.
Section–wise’ Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS) or section-wise cut–off marks
The total score of each candidate will be the sum of his/her best three scores out of the four sections.

The Final ranking of the aspirants will be based on percentile scores calculated from the best three section scores. NISER and CEBS will release separate Merit lists based on the following criteria-
A candidate is required to score equal to or above a total Minimum Admissible Percentile (MAP), to get a merit rank.
The best three section scores will be considered for the calculation of total marks to determine the merit rank of the candidate.
NISER Merit List- A candidate must score equal to or greater than the respective SMAS in all four sections
For CEBS Merit list- Each of the best three section scores of the candidate must be equal to or greater than the respective SMAS scores for those sections
If the percentiles of two or more candidates become equal (i.e in the case of a tie), then the best scores in the sections of the two students would be compared. The student with the higher score would get a better rank
